PLEASE HELP!!!!

Okay... I am having a problem with Upromise and my account.

Back in November, I purchased Aquafina to get the ecoupon contribution.  The ecoupon posted as pending to my account on November 14th, but for the wrong amount.  Upromise posted it as $349.00, instead of the $3.49 that I was suppossed to receive.

In December, they were made aware of the mistake, and posted an offset of incorrect contribution to my account for -349.00, and also posted the correct ecoupon amount for $3.49 to be added to my account.  Proplem solved, everything was to turn out the way it should.

All of these have been pending, until today.  Today (January 30th), Upromise took money out of my account balance that had been funded from other companies, that have funded their contributions, to offset the $349.00 mistake that was made.  However, the original $349.00 that was pending has never been paid.  So, now I have a negative balance in my Upromise account summary for contributions that have been FUNDED due to this withdrawal that Upromise to my account!

I do not believe that this is fair, nor is it ethically right for Upromise to fund a withdrawal OUT of my account for a mistaken contribution that has not yet been FUNDED in the first place!

I mean, everywhere you look, Upromise tells us that they post contributions as pending when they are made aware of the purchase, and then they have to wait to actually fund the amount until whenever they receive the money from the contributing company.  So, by this standard, Pepsi has not yet paid the $349.00 yet, so why is UPromise taking $349.00 OUT of my funded account that I have earned from OTHER companies?  I mean just what are they doing with my $349.00?

More or less they have stolen or borrowed money from MY funded balance ( a balance which does not include the $349.00 mistake in the first place), and now I have to wait until Pepsi sends them the $349.00 and UPromise deposits it into MY account to get the money I have rightfully earned from other copmpanies that have already funded their contributions (and it could take Pepsi up to 120 days to fund that contribution, that is if they even do, because I am sure they are just as aware of the mistake, and know that they don't owe on a $349.00 coupon for a $3.49 package of bottled water!)!

So, my question is: can Upromise or ANYBODY explain to me how Upromise can withdraw funds from my account (for THEIR mistake) before the funds have even been added to my account???

Below is exactly what is listed in my account under Contributing Companies, and for Pepsi so that people can better understand what is happening to me here... as you will see, it clearly looks like they have simply STOLE the money from my account (more or less they took money from my funded account balance as if I owe them $349.00, but I was NEVER paid that $349.00; so why are they taking it out?), and then expect me to wait for Pepsi to send them the $349.00.  I mean shouldn't Upromise have waited until the funds were posted as FUNDED before funding thier withdrawal for THEIR mistake???

And how is it fair to take money from me (actually it would be from MY CHILDREN, since this program I participate in is to save money for college for my children) that I have earned from OTHER companies that have posted as funded and then expect me to wait until Pepsi decides to send them a check, and then I'll get my money back that was rightfully mine to begin with???  I mean that money I earned, it was funded in my account, and because they made a mistake, now it is GONE, and I have a NEGATIVE balance now of -167.00.  Money I got from other companies, NOT from the Pepsi contribution that was a mistake!!!  How can they even consider doing something like this?

It is by no means anything less than fraudulantly borrowing money!  More-or-less that is what is going on, they are "borrowing" $349.00 from my funded account balance (to do whatever they want to do with it, I guess, or maybe they are in some sort of dire straits and need money for some reason that they found it neccessary to borrow the money from my account before it was even posted into my account), and then will wait until Pepsi sends them a check to put the money back into my account.  In the meanwhile, my children will lose interest, because I will not be able to make the quarterly withdrawal from my Upromise account like I normally do to put into their college savings accounts, but yet Upromise, who has my $349.00 (Upromise has it mind you, not Pepsi, because Pepsi never paid the $349.00 yet to need to have the $349.00 returned to them) can do whatever they want with MY money that they took out of my account (without the money even being added to my account first) simply because they can (not because it was owed to them; I would actually need to get the money first to owe it back, so it is NOT owed, but yet Upromise felt they were owed $349.00 for their own mistake of MY money that I earned from other companies, and I can wait for Pepsi to pay up (not them!  No, why would they wait when they can do WHATEVER they want to all of these accounts with all of this money!)

Something is just not right here, and would ask that Upromise look into this... I do not see how they can take $349.00 from me like it was owed to them, when I was never paid the $349.00 to begin with!  If the money had posted to my account, I could see issuing a withdrawal for the mistaken contribution, BUT that is not the case.  Upromise took money from me by funding a withdrawal to offset an incorrect contribution, but I was never PAID this money that was the mistake!

That's shady, REAL shady of the Upromise company to try to pass this off as ethical and proper operating procedure.  To take money from account holders that they haven't even been paid yet, for a mistake that wasn't theirs!  To approve/fund a withdrawal from an account owner for a contribution that hasn't even been paid to them yet???  What kind of company is this?  One that steals from the account holders, and then asks them to just wait 120 days for some other company to make it right?

WHY DID UPROMISE TAKE $349.00 OUT OF MY ACCOUNT THAT WASN'T OWED!  That is what I want to know???  I was never paid the money (ie: it wasn't funded into my account), so how can they withdraw it (ie: approve a withdrawal from my funded balance)?  How can they fund a withdrawal for an offset of an incorrect contribution that wasn't ever funded to begin with?  How can that even be considered proper or moral?  Somebody from Upromise, or ANYBODY, please help explain this to me....

here is what my account said today for under Pepsi... see how the 349.00 withdrawal has been funded, but the $349.00 contribution that was the original mistake is still pending (meaning I haven't received any funds for this "mistake" yet, but yet, Upromise took money out of my account like it was owed to them!  APPROVED A FUNDED WITHDRAWAL of a contribution that was NEVER FUNDED to begin with!

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi Twinboys2002, this is Marcie with Upromise. I'll look into this first thing next week and find out what's going on. It's certainly not our intention to take funded contributions from your account to cover a pending correction. I'll dig in and figure out what's going on and make sure there's a plan to correct it.

Cheers-

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!

twinboys2002,

On several occasions, I have returned items for which I had received pending Upromise contributions.  In every single instance, the offset was made against my Pending balance.  Based on my experience, I believe this is a mistake by Upromise and not something that is intentional.  Your experience does, however, highlight the need for members to periodically check their accounts for activity.

I would expect Upromise to resolve this quickly and for you to see the correction to your account by mid-week.  Keep us posted.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!

Marcie, Thank you for your willingness to look into this for me.  I can fully understand that it was subtracted from my pending balance as the initial contribution was pending as well, but why fund the offset before the initial mistake was funded?  I just don't get it?  I'm not upset that I'm not getting the $349.00, it was never rightfully mine to begin with; but I'm upset that they withdrew $349.00 out of my funded account balance for an incorrect contribution that was never funded.

Thank you so much for looking into this for me; I would hope that was not intentional, because I like the idea of the Upromise program, and I would like to recommend it to others, and promote the program; I'm just not sure at the immediate present with what has been going on that I can.

Thank you again.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!

Navy,

Thank you as well for your comment and support.  I know I may have seemed rash and abrupt last night when posting my experience and feelings about what was going on with my account.  I am a little more calmed down now, and a bit more rational in my thoughts.

I do hope there is a logical explanation, or that they simply overlooked that the contribution was never funded in the first place, and it all gets taken care of...

I wonder though too, I contribute to friends & family, and now the amount waiting to be transferred into their accounts is at  a negative balance as well.  So, will they withdraw funds from my family & friends' accounts when itcomes time to fund the monthly transfers?  If there is any chance of this happening,I need to let them know what is going on and that the money they have funded in their accoutns may get withdrawn too to cover the Pepsi correction.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi Twinboys2002. Thanks for giving me the chance to look into this. Turns out the best way to describe this is a "timing" issue. Basically the original contribution should have (and normally would have) moved to funded prior to the correction moving to funded, and given the order that things ended up happening in the opposite happened. I've confirmed that this will be corrected in the next few days and I've flagged a reminder to myself to personally check on this later in the week just to make sure it's fixed. I'm sorry for the mistake and thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hello, I have been a member for 8 years and have only 25.41 in my account, I have been an ebay member for 11 years, and shop alot there. I use the net for at least 50% of my shopping. We eat out 3x a week and etc.......  I don't know why I am still even trying this upromise thing as I have to complain over and over where is the money.  Always pending then later subtracted from amounts you already have wrapped up?  I don't know they just keep telling me year after year the same thing it should work?  I spent 5k over christmas time this year and only a couple ebay things are pending and 1 fannie mae transaction????  I did 98% of my shopping through upromise, have all my cards valid and registered, have turbo bar, write emails call them and have not gotten any of the 3-4% returns it promised????  I just don't know whats going on???  I hope maybe new members like you will actually get this to work for you!!  Good Luck

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi Twinboys2002. Just following up on this. The original contribution has now been funded so your account is net-positive and accurately represents contributions earned. Thanks for giving us the head's up so that we could fix this.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!

Sorry to hear you have had such a problem with Upromise.  I have been a member since 2002 I joined when my son was 9.  I just paid his 1st semester tuition for his Freshman year approxiametely $1800.00 and $1635.00 was Upromise money.  I only use my Upromise credit card and have never bought anything online so I don't  know your frustration.  I do think it is a wonderful program. Call the company I think they will work with you to rectify the problem. Good Luck
