As part of the Tuition Tales launch, 75 disadvantaged inner city students, ages 5-14 years old, are building the world's largest piggy bank as a symbol of the importance of saving for college. The students participate in afterschool programs conducted by LeAp, a non-profit New York City-based educational organization.  Containing the student artists' hopes for the future, the piggy bank which aims to be in The Guinness Book of World Records, will be 14 feet tall, 22.5 feet long, and six feet wide.

The Best of the Mess: Winner of the Messiest Room Contest Announced

by MichelleV on 03-23-2009 03:12 PM - last edited on 03-25-2009 04:46 PM

The entries for our Messiest Room Contest were nothing less than a hot mess!  But with Kmart®, Homz®, Sears®, The Container Store® and Target® gift cards on the line for the winner, our members had good reason to put their reputations on the line and let it all hang out - literally!

From trash covered dorm rooms to empty soup cans on bathroom floors, Upromise members were more than willing to share their disaster areas for a chance at the title of "Messiest Room".

Where were contests like this when I was growing up?  Back then, the prize would have been a one way trip to my room and free stay there until the mess was clean!  Anyhow, congratulations to our winner babycat1216.  She submitted a photo of her kitchen which was, well, to put it nicely, a sure winner!

Congratulations babycat1216 and thanks to all of you Mr. and Mrs. Messes for your sloppy submissions!

Upromise members really are willing to spread the love, especially when it came to sharing their most romantic Valentine's Day gift ideas for our Upromise Romance Contest.  And as a result, 5 lucky winners walked away with some fantastic prizes for their submissions and our community members got some great tips on what to give for the holiday of love!

Our first place winner was CassNick whose recommendations included a personalized watch case for him from personalcreations.com and bubble bath for her from QVC.com.  Both are great gifts - who doesn't like something with their name on it (unless it's a parking ticket) and bubble bath isn't just for kids!  Our second place winner, horseldr19,  suggested the Entertainment® Book (the gift that keeps on giving) and a personalized coffee mug (great for those who tend to forget our coffee mugs around the office) from personalizationmall.com.  Our third place winner, Frankie, also went with a personalized gift (leather bracelet and heart charm) from thingsremembered.com.  This store has been around for years and I always manage to find something here for every occasion.  Thees, our 4th place winner, went with an oldie but goodie and recommended fresh flowers from FTD.com or Proflowers.com.  Let's be honest here, you can't go wrong with giving flowers on Valentine's Day.  And guys, here's the important part, they are a gift that any woman would appreciate on any of the other 364 days of the year!  Trust me on this one guys!  Finally, our 5th place winner, bittersweet098, went with another old time favorite and suggested, among other things, a Godiva Valentine's Basket.  Yummmm!

This year, I decided to give myself a gift for Valentine's Day and went skiing.  But I was able to incorporate Upromise savings in my trip when I paid for my lift ticket and rentals with my Upromise credit card!

Congratulations to all of our winners and thanks to all of our members who participated in this contest.  We LOVE you and don't forget to keep an eye out for our next community contest.
