The Best of Saving with Style :: A Look Back at a Very Stylish Year

by on 05-05-2009 07:24 AM - last edited on 05-05-2009 07:24 AM

Good Morning Everyone!

With my time quickly coming to a close here at Upromise.com, I thought it appropriate to take a look back at the last year and the best of Saving with Style.

I will resist the urge to be completely obnoxious and suggest that my very first day on the job was indeed a shining moment - I mean, I thought it was fun, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't qualify as a "best."  However, tackling men's fashion was a high point - and I suggest that you print out this article and hand it inside your husband/boyfriend/brother/dad's closet for future reference. While he might not ever go all Marc Jacobs and don a Man Skirt, he may be totally open to carrying a nice bag, perhaps a murse - after all, every fashionable man deserves a nice bag.

And if you love high fashion but hate the price tag, print and keep this article about which mass retailers have major designers creating their very own lower-priced lines. Target is well-known for hosting big name designers, but do you know who else has them? Oh, and while looking for these designers, don't forget to stop by JCPenney and check out the new looks in their women's department. Or, hit up eBay - you'd be surprised how many designer labels you'll find listed at this virtual auction site for the world.

Speaking of the land of fashionable clothes, organic clothing has become as hot commodity too. From underwear to bedding, organic clothes and organic personal care products are everywhere. In fact, my daughter has a t-shirt from Old Navy that says, "Green is the New Black," echoing the sentiments of eco-conscious minds everywhere.  But is it really all it's cracked up to be? Read up and find out.

With all the clothes in my house, I have to do my own laundry. I don't necessarily like it, but I do it. To make it easier, I follow a few certain rules, especially when it comes to taking care of my beloved favorite tshirts - a staple in my summer wardrobe. However, I have a friend that drops all her laundry off and has someone else wash it and dry it. Ha! She's clearly single because if she wasn't, she could never afford to do this. However, even in her laundry-free life, she still avoids clothes that need to be dry cleaned - my article "Forget Dry Clean Only," was written with her in mind.

The three best places to find deals on shoes when shopping on Upromise.com will never go bad. What women doesn't love shoes? Some, like me, have an unhealthy obsession, but I've got to be honest, I don't just love shoes for myself. I love them for my daughter, babies and kids I don't even know, and busy executives that have never met me. I love organic shoes and shoes that I can design myself. In short, I just love to look at shoes, period. What I don't love are shoes that pinch my feet - no matter how cute or sexy they are, if they don't fit, I'm not wearing them. That's why I learned early on how to find my perfect sole mate.

With all this fashionable reading, you know you'll be doing some online shopping,  just be sure to clean out the closet first so you have plenty of room for your new duds. And if you're hesitant to buy online, read my quick and dirty tips to shopping online; honestly, the first time is the hardest, after that, it's easy as pie. Don't believe me? Think about these top 10 reasons to do your (holiday) shopping online - I'll bet you think twice the next time you get ready to drive to the mall.

And with summer right around the corner, it's once again time to talk about why UPF is important in kid's swimsuits and how to choose a bathing suit for yourself. Face it, standing in a barren dressing room with flourescent lights is not your favorite thing to do; make it a little easier with these shopping tips.

Want to make sure you ALWAYS save for college when you shop online? Be sure to install the Upromise Turbo Saver tool bar - I can't tell you how much more I've saved since I did. It's easy and painless - in fact, you'll forget it's even there until you need it.

With that, I'll close. And after Friday, I'm going to finally follow up on that New Year's resolution to treat myself once in a while.

Stylish Savings: May 1st thru May 4th

by on 05-03-2009 09:33 AM

I can't believe it's the first of May already!  Today in the Northeast is warm and sunny and I couldn't be happier about it.

So, without wasting any time, let's get started with this week's most fabulous sales.

Shop the LOFT Sale at Ann Taylor LOFT by May 3rd and save up to an extra 60%! If you miss the May 3rd deadline at The LOFT, you can shop through the 4th and take 30% off any $100+ order plus get free standard shipping with coupon code FRIENDS.

Grab a new tote bag for spring from JP Lizzy Babe over at hsn.com and you'll get free shipping through May 3rd as well. I like the Chocolate Ice Clara Shoulder Bag for $68 as well as the Mocha Mint Classic Tote Set priced at just $98.  At JCPenney.com you can choose between two different deals: free standard shipping on any order over $75 with coupon code PLUS9FSH or, use coupon code BIGSAVE to take $10 off $50+ or $15 off $75+ - both of these codes end May 3rd.

Also through the 3rd, head over to ShoeSteal.com where they carry deeply discounted shoes for the whole family. Save up to 60% on big brands such as Dansko, Etnies, Keds, UGG and more.  If I still had a toddler, I would totally jump on these adorable lime green patent leather Danskos for the younger set - how cute!! Or, these black patent UGG clogs........Sizes are limited but the prices can't be beat.

Make a purchase at Aeropostle (my daughter's favorite new place to shop) before the 4th and take 25% off any regular priced order with coupon code FLING09.  After you gab something for the kids, treat yourself to this ELLE Ruched Top at Kohl's for just $13.60.  Also through the 4th of May you can take an extra 20% off clearance items at AmericanEagle.com, aerie.com, and 77kids.com. Need something a little more dressy to wear to a summer wedding? Finally, check out Banana Republic and spend $150+ to get free shipping with coupon code BRFREESHIP.

Stylish Savings: How to Find Them, Where to Get Them

by on 04-29-2009 03:59 PM - last edited on 04-29-2009 03:59 PM

Alright folks, I'm shaking things up around here!

Wednesday is our long-standing sale day, but I'm postponing it to Friday this week.  Instead, I'm going to give you my tips and tricks for finding those fabulous deals that I bring to you.  Why would I do such a thing?  Because my time with Saving with Style is coming to an end.  Yes, I'm sad about it too, but it's been a year already! Can you believe it?

So, we'll do sales on Friday this week. Now, let's get to it.

First, head to the Upromise Online Shopping Page.

Click "coupon and deals."

Here is where it gets fun. You can sort alphabetically if you know the store name you're looking for, OR, you can sort by expiration date! That's what I always do! It's the best.

For me, who's easily amused, it's become a bit of a game. Like, what's the best possible deal I can find at the very last minute. It's like booking a hotel at two seconds before you run out the door and realizing that you got a great deal because they were underbooked!!!

Many of these deals are just too good to pass up. And, even though I won't be around much longer to point them out, you should still totally take advantage of them.

What are some other ways to get keen on the Upromise deals?

Become a fan on Facebook!  Join more than 1000 other Facebook folks that are sharing tips and getting the best deals handed to them - literally.

Subscribe to the RSS feed.  Who doesn't log in and read their favorite blogs everyday? Now you can get the top coupon codes and deals right along next to them.

Follow @Upromise on Twitter.  Just like Facebook, you can see what other members have to say about the deals they're getting, and share some tips of your own.

Shop for Mom and Save Money for College

by on 04-27-2009 05:23 PM - last edited on 04-27-2009 05:23 PM

Knock, knock.

Mother's Day is right around the corner. And if you're like me, you refuse appliances for this very important day. Shower me with kisses, books, the right to lay on the couch and watch gobs of trashy television, but do NOT, under ANY circumstance, buy me an appliance for Mother's Day.

Unless of course I've asked specifically for said appliance for said holiday; then it's okay.

So, in lieu of appliances, what gifts are Mother's Day approved?  Try shopping at one of these four stores.

eLuxury :: treat mom to a new piece of translucent jewelry by Louis Vuitton or a handbag by Fendi - plus take an extra 40% off already reduced sale prices.

Yoox :: the leader in luxury, grab mom gear from Marc Jacobs, D&G, Chloe' and Versace, just to name a few; she'll be the bell of the ball in her new designer duds.

Kohl's :: on the budget end of the gift spectrum, Kohl's has jewelry to fit every mom - from big and bold to demure and subtle; plus, while you're there, be sure to enter their contest for a $15,000 family vacation.

Linea Pelle :: one of the newest Upromise partners, you get a whopping 10% in college savings!  Gorgeous handbags, bracelets and belts are up for sale and you'd be crazy not to shower mom with gifts from Linea Pelle.

See you Wednesday with more Stylish Sales!

Clothing sale or not, as I sit in my little corner of the world on this rainy April morning, I am kind of in a blah mood. I think it's primarily because, while I love rain, I really only love it when it's a warm summer shower. The good news however, at least how my weatherman tells it, is that there will be sunshine and near 80-degree weather hovering over my little homestead on Sunday. Personally, I can't wait.

But, that brings another dilemma to light for me: what to wear.

I have yet to unpack my summer clothing, and even if I had, I don't know that I'd actually be putting it on. No one wants to see my pasty white legs this early in the season.

So, I'll likely stick to capri's this weekend, or maybe a cute little skirt. We'll have to see I suppose.

Anyway, enough about me - let's talk about you. And the best clothing sales to hit Upromise Online Shopping this week.

Expiring tomorrow (the 23rd) at 3:59am (read: shop today if you want the sale) are select shorts and capri's at Ann Taylor LOFT. We know that I love their clothes, and I would recommend stocking up on these essentials too. At up to $20 off, how can you go wrong?

Also expiring tomorrow, the sale at Naturalizer.com. Take 15% off your order with coupon code SAVE15. This excludes MBT footwear, but includes everything else on the site. Might I also add that they are currently running a handbag sale? That's right, take 20% off all handbags.

Need new running or walking shoes for your outdoor excersizing? Use coupon code NIKESNEAKER before tomorrow and receive free shipping on your order of $100 or more at Nike.com. The good news about this offer is that it's not limited to just shoes; grab this "puker sports pages" t-shirt, this tunic-length training hoodie, or these "perfect-fit" capri's.  Any or all would be a great addition to any get-fit girl's wardrobe. For whatever reason, I'm always more motivated to stay moving when I have cute new workout clothes.

J. Jill, one of my favorite stores, is giving 25% off select spring styles through the 23rd. This solid silk linen tank is gorgeous and drapes beautifully. Pair it with these cropped silk linen pants and you'll have an outfit ready for dinner, drinks with friends, a casual lunch or a day at the park. In a nutshell, it's a go-everywhere kind of ensemble. I also happen to think these wearever wide-leg pants look awful comfy.

Love Vera Bradley? Type in Extra20 at checkout - by the 24th - when you shop sale items at VeraBradley.com; you'll get an extra 20% off already reduced sale prices. While I'm not always crazy about the quilted look of the Vera Bradley bags I do like some of her newer stuff, including this tweed vertical tote and this black microfiber pleated bowler bag.

If you're a beach bum once the summer is in full swing, you'll love the surf-ready gear at Swell.com; you'll also love their sale.  Their giant spring sale slashes an astonishing 85% off select pieces. Quantities are limited, so shop early.

Finally, round out the week with White House Black Market. They're giving up the goods with sleek and snazzy flip flops for just $20, thru the 25th; my daughter is loving these.  Or, if you're not in the mood for flip flops, use coupon code 8822 instead (thru the 27th) and take $20 off any order of $80 or more.  Either way, you can get some super-cute summer shoes.

BCBGTop.pngJust a quick post this Monday morning to let you know about Bluefly's incredible spring sale plus their Gossip Girl Contest.

Yes, that's right, a Gossip Girl Contest.  All you need to do is guess who's the gossip.  Guess correctly and you could be the winner of a $5000 shopping spree! Woot!  Plus, get the chance to shop each of the main characters closets. Get your hands on the softer wardrobe of Blair or the sleek and sophisticated style of Serena. Want to make your man a little more Chuck-eqse? They've got that too.

Gossip Girl not your style? Play the contest at the very least; it could be worth $5000 in gear from Bluefly!

Or, just head to Bluefly for 40% off head to toe spring looks. Embroidered silk tops, flirty cotton skirts ......you'll be suited up for spring in no time at all!

See you back on Wednesday when we'll have yet ANOTHER long list of great Upromise Online Sales.

Don't want to wait? Last Wednesday I posted some sales that won't expire until this Wednesday (the 22nd) OR, you can head over to the Upromise Online Shopping page  and then click "coupons and deals." Sort by expiration date to see what sales are soon coming to an end.

Stylish Savings from Upromise Online Shopping :: April 16th - April 22nd

by on 04-15-2009 05:21 PM - last edited on 04-15-2009 05:21 PM

Did you file your taxes today?

I have a friend that admitted she waits until the very last minute - not because she owes, but because she argues with herself about how to spend the money. Invest it? Treat herself? Pay off debt?

I smartly advised her that, if she were using the money to treat herself to items that can be purchased through Upromise Online Shopping, she'd also be saving some and using that towards paying off her student loan debt. Ha! One quick shopping stop and you've killed three birds with just one stone.

So what's up for sales this week?

Stock up on essentials at the GAP - until the 16th - where you can take 30% off at their Semi-Annual bra event and 25% off dresses and skirts.  I am smitten with the flirty style and punchy color of this pom-pom dress and I find GAP Tshirt dresses to be a staple item in my summer closet; in fact, more days than not I'm donning a dress during the summer - why not make it a comfortable one?

My favorite sale of all this week happens to end tomorrow (the 16th). Head to Shop.HBO.com and take advantage of 15% off ALL Sex and the City items!! We know that I loved the show - as did many other women. And when I was sick on the couch all last week, I watched the entire season and the movie as well. I never get tired of it. So, why not plan your own girl's night? Everyone could wear one of these great stiletto tees and you could stuff door prizes in these cute leopard print cosmetic bags with the signature embroidered stiletto as well.

Over at Macys.com, when you spend $99 or more, enter code CHOICE during checkout to receive free standard shipping.  They have lots of beautiful spring and summer clothes on sale, plus, tons of clearance items - as usual. I remember that, when I was a kid, I always thought of Macy's as this big fancy department store frequented by wealthy women wearing sparkly jewels and oversized sunglasses - I never really pictured it to be an average gal's store. Turns out that I've gotten some of my favorite clothes there at the best prices. Who knew?

And Kohl's - home to my favorite clothing line ever (Simply Vera anyone?), you can save up to 50% apparel and accessories in every single department. No matter what you're shopping for from baby to dad, you might be able to score it at half off! How fab is that?

Looking to splurge on a treat with that tax return? Take advantage of new markdowns at eLuxury.com where they've slashed prices by up to 40% on luxurious clothes for both him and her.  If you want to own designer but usually can't swallow the price tag, now is the time to get the label you're lusting after.

Shop those three sales now through the 20th.

Nordstrom.com would like Upromise Online Shoppers to know that every Wednesday is markdown day on their site. Enjoy up to 40% off - check back every Wednesday for new deals.

Grab some fancy new clothes at Banana Republic and accessorize with anything from the Piperlime site (might I suggest a fabulous Melie Bianco handbag??) You'll look great from head to toe AND you'll get standard shipping for free. All you need is Banana Republic coupon code SHIPPL.  Or, shop one of Upromise's newest online merchants, Linea Pelle, and take $15 off any order of $100 or more with coupon code CJLP15. While you're there, play their rockstar game for a chance to win a $3000 Linea Pelle shopping spree. You'll love their stuff - I know I do!

You don't need to hurry for these - Banana Republic is giving you their offer until the 30th and the Linea Pelle coupon code is good through August 31st; but hey, they're great offers, so why not mention them now, right? Use them this week and next if you like!  Another great opportunity with a long-time-from-now expiration date?

Sign up for the J. Jill newsletter and be entered into their monthly drawing; they're giving away a $500 gift card! That's like getting an EXTRA tax return!

Enjoy your week - see you Friday!

Erikson Beamon for Target

by on 04-13-2009 07:33 PM - last edited on 04-15-2009 01:02 PM

Erikson Beamon is a big name on the runways. The baubles that they create are stunning, fun and flirty.

From humble beginnings, they quickly became a worldwide sensation - and that was 20 years ago.

Now, they've designed a pared down line for none other than Target (of course).  While it has sold out within a few days at many retail locations, you can still grab pieces online. Which are my picks?

The Long Clear Clear Bubble Bead Necklace. Throw this 40" necklace on with anything from a dress and heels to capris and flip-flops. Perfect for the summertime, this necklace is go-anywhere ready the first minute you take it out of the package.

The Jeweled Link Chain Bracelet. Chunky and bright, this piece makes a statement. One reviewer complained of the stones falling out, but others have not seemed to have the same problem. Just to be on the safe side, be sure to check your stones when you get your bracelet.

The Jeweled Multi-Colored Cluster Pendant is 36" of sheer beauty. This necklace is demure and understated, but leaves a big impression once you put it on. I personally think it would be lovely with this cuff bracelet.

Whichever Erikson Beamon item you choose, you're sure to be delighted with your purchase. Be part of a growing group of women enjoying the designs of Erikson Beamon at a very affordable price.

Stylish Savings from Upromise Online Shopping :: Take 2

by on 04-10-2009 11:37 AM - last edited on 04-10-2009 03:37 PM

So our list was really long this week! And because of it, we split our list in to two pieces.

Today is the second installment of a fabulous - and stylish - list of savings.

What's going on this weekend? Let's see!

If you're into Lilly Pulitzer, you'll be happy to know that, with any $300+ Lilly Pulitzer order at SaksFifthAvenue.com, they'll send you a free Lilly tote until April 12th.

And at Bloomingdales.com, you can save 20% off $100, 25% off $150, and 30% off your $200 order of any regularly priced baby and kids apparel and shoes; enter coupon code SAVEKIDS at checkout.

Need new kicks? Head to FamousFootwear.com and save 20% on your order with code 0409799 at checkout.  Or, take $15 off your $60+ order at FootLocker.com with code EMCP9M3R also through the 13th.

For the teens and tweens in your home, juniors Maxi Dresses are on sale for less than $20 at Beallsflorida.com until the 12th, and you can also head to Aeropostle.com for 50% off all shorts and swimwear now through the 13th.

Wow, that was quite a list this week. Like I said, these seem to be getting pretty long. Remember, I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on the list, whether you read the whole thing, whether you think it's too long, just right, or not long enough. Weigh in below!  Pretty please?

Message Edited by Stacie on 04-10-2009 03:37 PM

This week's list is a biggie. In fact, it's so big that we're separating it into two posts! Today I'll let you in on the sales that are ending the 9th and 10th, but you'll have to check back tomorrow to get the deals for the rest of the week!

In the meantime, I need your feedback because I don't know what it is lately, but there seems to be an awful lot of sales going on. This is great for you and me, but I'm starting to feel like these lists are getting (and continuing to stay) really long.

So, what do you think? Do you prefer that I bring you all the fashion-related sales once per week, or would you prefer that I focus on several stores and just bring you the items I feel are simply the best?  Leave a comment and weigh in; I'll be taking your thoughts in to consideration for my next sale blog entry.

Alright, for the next three sales, you'll have to act fast - these deals end tomorrow (the 9th)!

  • Take 15% off any order at Yves Rocher using coupon code YR15OFF.
  • At American Eagle, all tops are Buy One Get One HALF OFF; this should please the teens in your house!
  • Ann Taylor LOFT has new markdowns and you can score stuff at up to 60% off right now.
  • Over at Martin + Osa - one of my faves! - you can take up to 40% off.

Ending April 10th we've got LOTS of goodies.

Armani Exchange will let you enjoy a whopping $50 off every $150 order (excluding eyewear and watches).

Shopping for Mother's Day Gifts? Check out the clearance sale going on at Zales where you can take an extra 30% off already reduced prices. I am quite fond of:

Oh, decisions, decisions........

At Avon.com, you can take advantage of free standard shipping on $10+ and $20+ orders with coupon codes SPRING910 and SPRING920 respectively. I can personally attest to their product lines being very cute and holding up well.  I have made multiple purchases from them - both clothing and bags - and it truly is a whole bunch of bang for very little buck.

Try the Gem Accented Knit top which is very summery and has a touch of boho chic going on.  Their Whipstich Buckle Handbag will easily go from spring to summer to fall. Need something smaller just to run errands with? Try the Hand Beaded Clutch for less than $20. And while I would not invest much in their metallic jewelry, I would grab anything beaded, such as the Geometric Long Jet Bead Necklace. Their jewelry is well constructed and their clasps hold up to tugging and pulling, so even if you have a small child at home, you can wear it without fear of it being yanked off your neck and beads rolling everywhere.  If you're looking for a strictly summer, fresh and flirty accessory, these Brilliant Brights will do the trick - don't forget the matching chandelier earrings.  These would also make affordable - and stylish - Mother's Day Gifts.

Speaking of which, if you're in to buying jewelry for mom, hsn.com will give you up to 40% off their new gemstone lines in their Spring Gem Events.  I've mentioned before that I have a friend with a serious hsn.com shopping addiction. I'm telling you, their stuff is actually really nice. I happen to be partial to the Cultured Freshwater Pearl Cuff Bracelet on sale for $49; it's feminine yet not invisible and a great statement piece for the mom that's not quite ready to be all-out sassy.

If you're looking to really rock her socks, try this 1.16ct Sapphire and Diamond Ring in 10K white gold - wowza! Going for unusual and original? Then the Cultured Cranberry Freshwater Pearl Necklace will be perfect.

Let's see, what else is ending on the 10th? Delias.com offers 15% off any order with coupon code APR15.

Don't forget to check back tomorrow for the rest of this week's stellar sales!

The 2009 Jumpsuit :: A Fashion Do or a Fashion Don't?

by on 04-07-2009 12:49 PM - last edited on 04-07-2009 12:49 PM

I've seen jumpsuits everywhere lately, and I'm not sure that I'm on board.

Yet designers are pumping these out right and left which must mean that someone loves them.

And it's not that I don't like the look of them - I really do. I think that there are some VERY cute jumpsuits out there (I cannot believe I just said that), but what I guess I'm not sure of is whether they are meant for everyone. It's sort of like the maxi-dress dilemma.

For example, take a look at this number by Robert Rodriguez at Nordstrom.  The V-neck is very flattering on nearly any body type and the belted waist will certainly lengthen you, but the long, billowy legs makes me a bit nervous. It looks super-comfortable, but for a girl of shorter stature, it's a little intimidating. However, I do really like the Not Your Daughter's Jeans Jumpsuit. The more narrow leg and the belt gives this the look of two separates in one solid color. Uniform color from head to toe gives you a slim appearance.

This particular jumpsuit, available at Macy's, looks great for the beach and warm summer days. Pair it with some a gladiator-styled sandal and you'll be good to go.

So, if you do opt for a jumpsuit, what are the rules?

For one, keep it simple. No big hair. Modern, sleek hair work best with the jumpsuit, as does simple makeup. Neutral tones and a swipe of lip gloss is the way to do it.

Second, be understated. You'll notice that all three jumpsuits I picked out were in black, a very basic color. A jumpsuit is tricky enough to pull off without loud prints or other distractions.

Remember, jumpsuits started with those men that jump out of planes, so when choosing a jumpsuit, go sexy and sleek, not bulky. And no zippers either.  Oh, and they are definitely an office no-no.

Finally, if you try a jumpsuit, let me know by leaving a comment. I'm curious to know how it turned out. Then, based on your take, I may or may not decide to try one for myself.

chicBuds :: A Sweet Treat for Your Ears!

by on 04-03-2009 02:13 PM - last edited on 04-03-2009 02:16 PM

chicbuds.png

I was recently lucky enough to make the acquaintance of a great PR Firm - Chic Execs. Even better, a number of the products they represent are available for purchase through Upromise Online Shopping. This is good news because it means that I can test drive some products and give you an honest assessment.

The first products I took for a test drive? chicBuds.

These little bedazzled headphones are meant to spice up your audio listening whether you've got an iPhone, iPod, portable DVD player, or any other type of media player that you are looking to use. They're sassy, sophisticated and adorned with Swarovski Crystals for all you girls that are out there wanting to add some spice to your music.  Available in a variety of colors and patterns, you can really get them in whatever shade you're partial to.

What I loved ::

  • The bedazzled look for one. The pair sent to me were white with pink crystals - or watermelon if you want to be precise. Packaged in a cute black tin, they have humorous label on the back - similar to a nutrition label. Very cute.

  • I also liked the expandable cord, which you pull from both ends simultaneously to whatever length you prefer. I am forever getting annoyed at my iPod headphones with the one-length-fits-all cord that I have to wrap around the iPod a hundred times. The retractable cord allowed me to make it just the perfect length. No accidental dropping of the iPod because my hand accidentally caught the cord while I was walking.

  • The sound quality is excellent and crystal clear, although it does not block out any other noise, so you may find yourself listening to your iPod a little louder than necessary depending on where you are.

Here's what I wish were different ::

  • The retractable cord is housed in a little circular casing, which makes total sense. But when you get the chicBuds in your ears, that casing tends to be a little heavier than you are probably used to. Now, to offset the heft, there is a handy clip on the housing so you can clip it to your shirt, thus counteracting the weight. The downside to clipping it to your clothing is that, if you are walking anywhere, the housing constantly swings and bangs against whatever it's clipped to, as well as your body.

  • Also, there are no earphone covers or tips included, which means that your ears need to be a somewhat "standard size" to wear these without them teetering out. So, for all of that, I would definitely not run or workout with these.  Your other option would be to invest in the chicBudsJr (which my daughter has and loves!!) They have smaller ear buds and a lighter housing unit, although no clip to keep it them place.

Overall, this is a pretty great product and makes a fantastic accessory. Fun and functional, you will enjoy them and you'll surely get many a compliment. If you are an iPod user that enjoys music on the subway during a commute or just walking through town, you'll thoroughly enjoy the convenience of these.

They will also be great at the beach this summer. Magazines everywhere are touting their praises over this product and it landed on many gift lists this past holiday season. chicBuds also offers iPod casings and PinkTooth Wireless Headsets, all of which make great, chic gifts!

Shop for chicBuds via Upromise Online Shopping. Several retailers carry them so be sure to compare prices to get the best deal out there.

The sales this week are fantastic! Plenty of coupon codes - enough to make your head spin!!

Let's start our shopping venture at Ann Taylor Loft where you can get a second sweater at 1/2 price when you buy the first one at full price. It's a great chance to stock up on some really cute spring and summer sweaters and save money all at the same time. If you're not in the mood to shop for sweaters, you can always take 20% off whatever you choose with coupon code 104004175. Both sales end today (the 2nd), so you don't have much time to act, but it's worth hurrying for anyway.

Old Navy is also cranking out their online only spring sale, giving you 40% off in every department through the 4th.

Shop at Kohl's.com by the 5th and take 10% off your entire order with coupon code NEW4600. I, of course, am salivating of the Simply Vera Wang spring collection, and shamelessly lusting over this gorgeous satin trench coat, as well as these twill straight leg pants, and this ribbed cardigan.

Ulta Beauty has tons of gorgeous cosmetics up for grabs as well as free standard shipping on any order over $25 and coupon code 22519; I'm thinking this makeup bag is worth a second look - too cute.  Finally, on the 5th, if you missed the chance to shop at Ann Taylor Loft on the 4th, you can use coupon code 104004175 25% off any full price order $75 or more.

Finish up your week of sales by shopping Lucky Brand Jeans by April 6th. Hello Kitty :: The Power of Hello Kitty

by on 03-30-2009 05:25 PM - last edited on 03-30-2009 05:25 PM

HelloKittyBelt.pngHello Kitty has her pretty little face on just about everything. Clothes, toasters, bedding, and every other thing. In fact, if you search for "Hello Kitty" on the Upromise Online Shopping page and you'll get 590 hits!

That's a whole lotta Hello Kitty.  And it's not just for little girls.

Try one of these items on for size.

The Hello Kitty Beach Cruiser available at Target. I love the color pink, and this bike fits the bill. I can totally picture myself cruising around the neighborhood on this baby!!

At first glance, you may think that this Hello Kitty pendant is for little girls, but at $295 and with real diamonds, it's definitely not something you'd hang around the neck of a little girl.  The same could be said of this Stainless Steel Silhouette Watch with Mother-of-Pearl Dial.

Hello Kitty Ballet Flats at Yoox. A little to princess-y for me, but you might like them. Personally, I think this grommet belt is a little more my speed.

No matter your age, everyone loves a little Hello Kitty; get yours today.

Organic Shoes :: Who Makes Them and How 'Green' Are They?

by on 03-27-2009 02:27 PM - last edited on 03-30-2009 08:22 AM

SimpleCartoon.pngIt seems that all fashion is going the way of organic lately, and I have a feeling that we haven't even seen the bulk of it yet.  With shoe companies now jumping on the bandwagon, we're entering a whole new world of "organic fashion."

Historically, shoes have been one of the most toxic items a person can wear. Between the chemicals from tanneries and the chemicals in the rubber, shoes have been a necessity that are just not good for you or the planet.

But now, companies like Timberland, Simple, Keds, and Skechers are making "organic" or "green" shoes. Shoes that have a lesser impact on the planet, and are made from organic materials. But the question is, are they fashionable? And, if not, will you wear them anyway simply because being green is in good taste?

Let's see what we've got.

The Avacotoe, made by Simple, is a cute little number. Part of the Green Toe™ line, this shoe is made with veganHushPuppies.png and environmentally friendly materials for the ultimate in "green" shoes.  From the water-based cement that holds the shoe together and the coconut buttons to the 100% organic cotton label, the Avacotoe features a hemp upper and an organic cotton fleece lining. The rubber sole is made of recycled rubber tires.

Personally, I think this shoe is pretty cute and I would likely purchase it in black. Incidentally, I also really like the Simple Cartoon slip-on, styled as a ballet flat. Very cute, and very envirtonmentally friendly.

I'm loving this shoe by Think! The Vali style is perfect for the office or just casual wear. However, the price tag currently sits at $264.95! That is way out of my price range!! Made with vegetable-tanned leather, it's definitely organic and green, but for that price, I don't think it's practical.  However, if you love the look of the shoe but can't stomach the price, the Togo by Hush Puppies is probably right up your alley. Part of the Hush Puppies Harmony Collection, this shoe uses leather from certified environmentally conscious tanneries, an organic cotton lining, and water-based cement. Contrast stitching and pleating increase your style factor. The organic cotton-wrapped, recycled Poliyou® footbed provides a healthy foot environment.

For men, Timberland has a great, earth-friendly line as well.  You can see the huge selection that Upromise online shopping offers by clicking here.

Overall, the organic shoe movement is here to stay. And for the most part, I think that the styles available are affordable and nice to look at. What's your take on the green shoe movement?

NaturalizerSandals.pngIt's time for another week of great sales at Upromise Online Shopping. This week, I've done things a little bit differently; I've organized the sales by their expiration date. So, the first sales are the ones expiring first. Ready? Here we go!

Alright, these babies you've got to act fast on. Why? Because they end tomorrow! The 26th!!

Old Navy Spring Dresses starting at just $15. You've seen the commercials so you know what I'm talking about. Dresses this cute are hard to pass up.

Land's End is getting you ready for summer by giving you the chance to save some dough when you buy girls' and women's swim separates, in fact, you'll save $5 each. This sale includes rash guard shirts for the little girls' and all sorts of goodies for mom, including those lovely tummy-triming suits that Land's End has become famous for. Even though I am loving the swimsuits that Elle came out with this year at Kohl's, I'm seriously considering this number......I like the criss-cross straps in the back, and I'm also digging the swim-mini (although my younger friends that have not yet had any children think I'm crazy for that).

Speaking of swimwear, the GAP is having a sale on swimwear as well, offering 30% off. Although I do feel that it's better suited for the teenage demographic; simply because it the styles are very tiny.  That said, if you're like one of my friends that has had a few kids and still has the body of a 17-year-old, go for it - just know that I will not be putting my towel down next to you on the beach.

On a different subject, but with the same retailer, for those of you that just recently had new babies, GAP also has very stylish nursing tops on sale at 20% off.

Although spring is on everyone's mind, Martin + Osa has a sale on spring sweaters. The in-between season is OldNavyDress.pngalways so tough, and depending on where you live, you may still have 6 weeks or so of cool evenings to contend with. And, if you live close to the water like I do, you often need a light sweater at night, right on through the summer.

Looking for some comfy kicks with spring appeal? Hit up Naturalizer and take 15% off all orders with coupon code AFA28. Spice up that little black dress with these peep-toe Red Leather Whistler'speep-toe Red Leather Whistler's or wear your favorite dark-denim capri's with these adorable, linen floral print espadrilles. Naturalizer also has some great handbags too - remember, the sale is good on your entire order.

Ok.....so those are the "hurry up and shop sales....."  Now, on to the rest.

My daughter has already made a huge wish list for spring shopping at Delia's, where, with coupon code DYBW75, I can get free standard shipping on any order over $75, now through March 28th.

Stock up on basics for the kids over at Kmart. Boys Basic Edition polos are on sale, as well as Basic Edition dresses for girls (expires March 29th).  While I really love this square neck dot baby doll dress, my daughter definitely prefers this halter-style.  We're at that weird place where I still want her to dress on the girlish side, and she's all about dressing like a teenager; ah, the joys of a 10-year-old.

Oh! And this truly might be the find of the week - honestly. And, believe it or not, it's not even a sale, it's a regular priced item!! At Kmart, Signature Levi's are only $19.99. With a low-waist, flat-front, 2-button closure, these are absolutely adorable! And the flare leg is complimented by a wider cuff, so it looks - and lays - more like a trouser pant.

Target, Target, Target.....how do I love thee? Let me count thy ways from now until March 29th! How about 10% off plus free standard shipping on orders over $50? This applies to accessories, jewelry, women's, shoes, and juniors and is valid through March 29th.

And, winding down the week, we have Lord & Taylor giving you 20% off any order with coupon code SIGSALE, Lucky Brand Jeans (which I love) with free standard shipping on any $50 order and coupon code 9SHIPA, and MetroStyle taking up to 80% off clearance items. All offers good through March 31st.

Sheesh! That was a big list, 'eh? The end of the month must be a favorite time for Upromise Online Merchants. Take advantage and save big!

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara :: Can You Really Kiss Your Lash Curler Goodbye?

by on 03-23-2009 01:59 PM - last edited on 03-23-2009 01:59 PM

CliniqueMascara.pngI am a serial lash curler.

Every morning, I lean in to the mirror, pull out that little device and strategically place it along my lash line; with one quick squeeze, my lashes are curled.

Too bad I sometimes get it too close to my lid and accidentally pinch my skin. Ouch.

This is what makes the new Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara so appealing to me. The idea that I can put on mascara - like I do every day - and getted curled lashes out of the deal, without the pain of a tiny vice, is more than I can hope for.

Now, as we all know, I am quite partial to the Lancome Oscillation Mascara, but it doesn't have a built-in lash curler. Could I be moving on? Let's see.

The claim: For just $14, your lashes will be coaxed to "their longest, boldest, most upturned look yet, without a pinch, pull, tug or tear. Arched wand scoops up, lifts up every last lash. Smudge, flake, smear-resistant for up to 24 eye-opening hours. Ophthalmologist tested."

I never doubted that this would be a great product, because Clinique has been around long enough to know what women want.  But I was curious about two things: would it really curl like it claimed, and, did it REALLY last 24-hours?

What I found: It indeed does curl your lashes; however, I think that, depending on how well your current lash curler works for you, you will get mixed results. For example, I do love my lash curler and it works really well - I felt like I needed a LOT of coaxing in order to make my lashes as curled as I was used to. The other problem with this is that this mascara is already a little heavy to begin with, making it obvious that you have mascara on. While it didn't clump or anything, it just looked different than I am used to. I prefer a more natural look.

It does last 24-hours, albeit, your lashes will not be as curled at the end of that 24-hours as in the beginning. No smudging, no flaking.  But here is my disclaimer - my 24-hours included 6-hours of sleeping. So, for anyone that goes out at night and dances till dawn, I don't know that you will find the same result.

Here's what I love: It washes off with water. Simple as that. Now, what I don't know is how this would fare if you were crying, or say, sweating. I haven't tried that experiment yet, but maybe I should.

Overall, if you are a faithful Clinique junkie, you will appreciate this new mascara, and you can get it, along with your Upromise Savings, right here.  If you're satisfied with the current mascara and lash curling routine you have now, you're best to stay with what you know.

Have any of you tried the new Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara? What was your experience?

LaceTrimHenley.pngJust to start this fabulous first weekend of spring off right, here's 6 sales available from Upromise Online Shopping!

Get ready for spring and summer activities with Nike's sale, ending March 21st. Take 20% off select sunglasses and watches. You'll look stylish while you're workin' on your fitness.

Kohl's - home of my favorite line Simply Vera - is giving you coupon code NEW3422 so you can take 10% off any order - that's right, not one particular item, but your whole order. So, you can save a whole lot of dough on your spring wardrobe. This coupon code is only good through Sunday, March 22nd, so you'll have to act fast.  This ELLE lace-trim henley is particularly cute, and comes in a variety of colors....and as much as I hate to admit it, I'm actually contemplating one of their swimsuits.  And believe you me, I hate swimsuit shopping (as evidenced here) because, at 31, I still haven't learned to embrace my shape.

That said, since I have a nearly 10-year-old daughter that is already struggling with the pressures of "what girls should look like," I'm throwing on a swimsuit this summer and embracing it. Period.

JCPenney, which we just talked about the other day, will give you $10 off a $50 order, or $15 off $75, with coupon code HUGENESS; this offer expires March 22nd, but it means you can get some of those new celebrity lines for a little bit cheaper.  Plus, I also noticed when I was browsing their website that they've got tons of specials going on, in addition to this coupon code.  I think they might have spring fever.

Timberland, my hubs favorite store is helping you get ready for an active warm weather season by letting you take 30% off any order. Make sure you use coupon code OUTDOORS to rake in the savings. Again, it's only until March 22nd, but according to their website, they're also oferring free domestic ground shipping if you spend over $100. What a great time to try their line of organic footwear.

And finally, Victoria's Secret is having a massive sale!! Ordinarily, I have a hard time justifying the cost associated with shopping there, but they have slashed prices across the site, to the point that you'd be silly not to take advantage. So many sales are going on that I can't even list them all, but some of the highlights? Up to 75% off more than 2000 items in their clearance section, up to 50% off swimwear, and their fabulous tanks - both classic and redesigned styles - 20% off when you buy 2.

Enjoy the sales ladies and gentleman....and Happy Spring from me to you!

The New Look of JCPenney

by on 03-17-2009 06:49 PM

MaxiDress.pngFor several weeks, I've been seeing advertisements for the new look of JCPenney. Happy woman are dressed to the nine's riding in cabs and texting, or running through grassy fields laughing and skipping. It's pretty enticing - especially when you live in a state that is cold, gray, and snow covered at the moment.  At this point, just about everything is exciting.

But I've been skeptical.

My only recollection of JCPenney involves over-crowded racks, sweaters made of flammable materials, and a shopping demographic that lands somewhere around mid-50's and up. To this day, my 85-year-old grandmother's favorite store to shop at is JCPenney. On the other hand, my 14-year-old sister also seems to really like it and any time I've ever gone shopping with her, I can't seem to get her out of there long enough to even score a cup of coffee at Starbuck's. So, I figured, maybe I should give it another shot.

JCPenney has partnered with several celebrity designers, much like other department stores such as Target and Kohl's, to offer cute lines at a fraction of the cost.

Probably the most popular one at the moment is theI (Heart) Ronson line by Charlotte Ronson. Putting her stamp on the fashion world with her first collection in 2000, she has quickly grown in popularity and continues to open niche boutiques around the globe. Her line for JCPenney is her own take on vintage American fashion and their partnership with her is a smart one as it will draw the younger teen and twenty-something demographic. Check out the I (Heart) Ronson Line.

Bisou Bisou is also another thumbs up in my book. Not only does the line offer some very casual-chic outfits, it also brings some adorable - and affordable! - maternity wear to the table. Let's face it, maternity wear has come a long way in terms of its stylish appeal, but the price is often time enough to make you re-think the purchase. The Bisou Bisou maternity line lets you be stylish without breaking the bank.

And, personally, I happen to think that this maxi dress is stunning. Now if I were only tall enough to wear it.....moving on!!

Allen B. has some serious sassiness going on as well. This Dip Dye top is perfect for the transitional season between spring and summer, and it's got that ever-so-sexy v-neck. Love it! And I really like the Pieced-Pocket Jean that they have it paired with.

And how about Nicole Miller? She's been with JCPenney's for quite some time and has always created lines that were very tempting. This time around, she has women's tops that are full of print and color - very fitting for the season. Myself, I'm not often found in such brazen shirts, but it doesn't mean that you can't wear them. Confidence is key, and when you feel you can rock it, you usually do.

I love the look of this tunic, but would really need to try it on to see if it flatters my shorter stature. That's the hard part about this new boho-chic look, if I’m not careful, I run the risk of looking like a beached whale. Not pretty. This Trapeze Top on the other hand, I can totally rock, but I'm not sure if the print will agree with me. We shall see.

It sounds like a trip to JCPenney.com is in order, doesn't it?

We live in what I refer to as a "hobbit house."  When a prior family decided they needed extra room, they converted this little 1-bedroom cape to a "cozy 3-bedroom" by finishing off the attic.

The problem? They never fully dormered the space and so we now have doorways that are 5' 7" x 2' 3".  And no, I'm not making that up; I just thank my lucky stars that we are not tall people. In our daughter's bedroom, she has a closet with a door that measure 36" tall. That's great when you're a toddler, but when you're nearly 10? Not so much.

In our room, the closet is at least tall, but it's definitely very small. Which leaves us with only one other closet in the house - that one is in my office. We have no pantry, no linen closet, no coat closet. I'm sure you can imagine what a predicament this puts us in when it comes to storing clothes.

Which is one reason we had to institute the"one in, one out" rule when we moved in to this place.

While our house is not necessarily pristine, it is tidy and uncluttered. But for all of you that feel you have a little mess on your hands that you feel you could make nice and pretty with just a little help, let me introduce you to the Upromise Messiest Room Contest.

This contest rocks my socks! With gift cards from Kmart, Target, Sears, and The Container Store on the line, you'd be crazy not to get in on the action. Unless, of course, you're Neat-Nick Nancy like my daughter, who can't even go to sleep if there is a pair of socks lying on the floor.

Even if you don't want to enter (because maybe, like me, you'd be embarassed to put a picture of a messy room in your house up for all the Internet world to see) you can at least browse through the photos of other entrants that are not so shy.

My current favorite was submitted by linda44 who has an 18-year-old son that can't see his floor. She's so appalled by the scene that she's labeled her photo submission "disgusting." Ha! I'm so grossed out by it that I would proclaim her the winner right now if I could.

Next up? This submission by mail4rosey. This catch-all room doesn't look like it's breeding any bacteria, but it certainly could use a some major help.

And my final favorite contestant? A submission by Ayesha. This picture of her living room makes me want to call her up and offer my condolences.

So get on over there and check them out. If you submit your photo, leave me a comment so I can go over and check it out for myself!!

Women's Tshirts :: How to Care for Women's Tshirts

by on 03-10-2009 03:45 PM - last edited on 03-11-2009 12:08 PM

The Plain White T's are more than just a band; they're a staple in every woman's closet.

The problem? Pit stains and that ugly gray tint.

You know you've got 'em. So how do you get rid of them?  Or, at best, keep them at bay?

Here's some tips and tricks to keep your tshirts pearly white.

1. Don't overload your washer. With the invention of the front-loader, it's tempting to cram as much as you can in to your washing machine. But avoid the temptation!  And only put whites in - no pastels, no prints.

2. Wash your whites in warm water. Say what?!?  Yes, cold water saves money and electricity, but it's not the best thing for keeping your tshirts white and bright. According to the International Fabricare Institute, detergents overwhelming do a better job of getting your clothes clean when they are used with warm water.

3. If your tshirt is some exotic blend that requires dry cleaning, suck it up and go to the dry cleaner. Of course, we all know that my preference is to avoid dry cleaning all together.

4. To actually remove that sweat stain, use a combo of baking soda, peroxide, and water (1/4 cup each) and make a paste. Use an old toothbrush to scrub it in to the sweat stain and let it dry. Wash as normal.

Incidentally, and completely off subject, you can use the same mix + 1/4 cup dish detergent to get the skunk smell out of your dog if he or she gets sprayed.

Need to find the perfect stain stick? Look no further, I've got you covered with a wide selection, available through Upromise Online Shopping.

This public service announcement has been brought to you by Stacie, your lovely Saving with Style blogger. See you on Wednesday!

The Cage Sandal: Love It? Or Hate It?

by on 03-07-2009 08:11 AM - last edited on 03-07-2009 08:11 AM

Funtasma.pngEver since these gladiator-esque sandals hit the runways, I have absolutely avoided them. I'm not sure what it is with this style of shoe or sandal, but I really just don't like it.

Maybe it's because I don't like my feet.  Or maybe it's because I really prefer to spend my summer days in flip-flops. Either way, you won't catch me in gladiator cage sandals - ever.

It seems the styling of the gladiator sandals run the spectrum of simple and cute - like this pair by Jessica Simpson - to the ultra complicated. Case in point? Let me introduce you to the Funtasma Roman 10. Can you really wear these and not be late getting to work?

Then there's the more traditional styles, that are typically darker in color, and are very Roman God-like. From my point of view, these styles are definite "no's" on my list, yet these are the styles that seems to be so popular.  To me, I feel like all of them have way too much going on.

So here I defer to you - what is it about these that you love?  Really, I want to understand the attraction. Can you put your finger on it? Is it because they're trendy? Comfortable? Or is it something you can't name?

Please, leave a comment and weigh in on the subject. I'm trying to objectively put together a list of top picks for gladiator sandals, and I'm having trouble overcoming my personal issues with the beloved style. What style did you buy? And where did you find it?

Easy thru the hips, low in the rise, and relaxed through the leg, they flatter any figure; they're my favorite jeans ever.

BodenNecklace.pngI am a firm believer that you don't necessarily need to wait for Spring to hit your hometown before you start bringing it in to your wardrobe. It's all about the power of positive thinking!!

Boden :: Boden can sometimes be a bit pricey, but I guarantee you it's worth it. However, just window shopping on their site is enough to incite happy thoughts of warmer days and sunshine and fields of flowers and all those goodies - I browse their site like I browse the Anthropologie catalog. I love their colors. I love their presentation. I love their clothes. These are the items currently inspiring me.

**Gemstone Necklace** :: words cannot express how much I love this beautiful blend of glass and semi-precious stones; the hues of blues and yellows shouts "SPRING!" to me. This would be great paired with anything from a v-neck white t-shirt to a printed dress. Given an average 4.5 out of 5 star rating by Boden USA shoppers, I'd say it's a hit.

**Fab Animal Print Belt** :: animal print is back for spring, but in small doses. Cheetah print set against a solid background and trimmed out with bright patent leather - how can you go wrong?

**Jacquard Coat** :: a statement coat for sure and a splurge too, but a good one. I've always been an advocate of spending a little extra on some solid, quality pieces that will be in your wardrobe for some time to come. If you love the print, but are concerned about it being all over a jacket, you can also consider going with the skirt instead.

Old Navy :: always affordable, Old Navy is tough to beat - especially if you're looking for a few pieces that are a little more seasonal. Old Navy has trendy items that don't cost a fortune so, on the chance that you only wear them one season, you won't
ON Babydoll.pngloose sleep over donating the pieces next year. Here's a few pieces I'm loving.

**Floral-Cutout Babydolls** :: lacy trim accents a deep v-neck and looks great layered under a short blazer-styled coat or with a pair of jeans or capris. Throw on some strappy sandals with this breezy top and you'll be ready for the beach in no time flat.

**Pointelle Shrug Cardigans** :: available in grey, black, and white, these lightweight cardigans are a great transitional piece. And since they're a very basic color, you don't run the risk of the running out of appeal.

**Trench Coats** :: they're back and better than ever. Whether you choose a solid or a print, Old Navy has Spring trenches at a very low, affordable price.

Ann Taylor Loft :: grown-up clothes that still look youthful; it's a 30-something's dream come true. They've got some delicious selections for Spring and great pricing to match. Another bonus of shopping at The Loft? If you're a teacher, you can participate in the Loft Loves Teachers Program to receive discounts on your shopping as well as earn gear for your classroom. My picks from The Loft?

**Floral Print Ruffle Front Button Top** :: soft and girly, I like this for a number of reasons. I don't necessarily know that it would look great on me, but there are women out there that this is fantastic for. Very feminine, very spring.

**Marisa Chino** :: I'm at a place in my life where I'm picky about my pants. And more often than not, if I'm going somewhere in public, I'm throwing on a trouser-styled pant in khaki or a dark denim jean; it's just more appropriate at this point. This flat front chino fits the bill perfectly. 6 colors means lots of options that are anything but bland.

**Stretch Wide Filagree Bracelt** :: bedazzle any outfit with this stretch braclet. Bold and wide, it makes a statement.

At the end of the day, I love shopping for spring clothes. I love throwing open my closet, purging the heavy sweaters (that several months ago I couldn't wait to unpack), and filling the hangers with bright colors and lots of prints. Winter can't last forever, so bring a little spring your way now.

Tooling Around the Upromise Website

by on 02-25-2009 12:27 PM

Every now and again, I take a little virtual stroll around the halls of Upromise.  Usually I'm so consumed with what's going on with Saving with Style that I don't think about checking out what's going on in other places.

But then I got wind of some pretty great money-saving tips that came out of the Upromise Best Money Saving Tips Contest that just wrapped up and I had to check them out; you should too.

At the same time, I noticed the wrap-up from the Best Online Shopping Contest too - who knew there were so many contests going on around here??

Our guest blogger, Angie Wynne, is writing up a storm over at Mommy Saves Best, talking about some really cute, and affordable, baby nursery decor.  I am absolutely LOVING the pillow she has up!

One of our Upromise members, Rebecca, made a great point about Drugstore.com and how easy it is to use their service to help use up Flexible Spending Dollars at the end of the year. Even better, you save money for college this way too.

Not really sure how to use Upromise.com, or why you'd want to? Check out the How it Works board for info.  As for why you'd want to use the service - how about money for college? The way I see it, a public college education is soon going to be unaffordable for many kids - and their parents. Why not take the extra money wherever you can get it?

Martin & Osa: Shop the Sale and Save Big

by on 02-18-2009 08:20 PM - last edited on 02-20-2009 11:37 AM

LinenOmbreScarf.pngA recent addition to the Upromise Online Shopping Community, Martin & Osa is similar in style to Boden USA and J. Crew.  Simple in it's styling, their pieces are classic and won't go out of style. You can fully stock your wardrobe with staple items and be prepared for any season.

Right now, they're having a great sale with prices slashed up to 70% off.

Check out this Starry-Stick U-Neck Sweater for less than $20. A blend that includes cashmere, angora, and lambswool, this lightweight sweater is a perfect transition piece for the change of seasons that will soon be upon us. Layer it up for cooler days, wear it alone when the weather gets a bit warmer.  Most basic, solid colors are still in stock in all sizes; be sure to check out the close-up pictures to see the detailing - it's really a gorgeous piece.

Spice up your wardrobe with this lucious, multi-hued, blue Linen Ombre Scarf. Rich in color, you can wear this to the office with a suit, or out shopping with a denim jacket and a pair of khakis.  The long length gives it an extra bit of elegance simply due to the way it drapes. And don't be afraid of the blue - due to its multi-hued color scheme, it's a great fit for any complexion whether you're blond, brunette, or a red head.  Grab it for under $30.

Another great transition piece, this Essential Fleece Hoodie is a more grown-up version of your favorite bum-around-the-house sweatshirt. Long ribbed cuffs and an inset ribbed collar give this sweatshirt a unique look. Perfect with jeans, it's a great grab-and-go item when you're headed to the store.

For the man in your life, give his wardrobe a little extra oomph with a Storm-Placket Henley Sweater. A little bit rugby, a little bit boyish, you'll see him in a whole new light when he slips this on. Whether he's out playing hockey with the kids or you're grabbing a quick lunch together, you can be sure he'll get a lot of use out of this.

Or what about this Rugby -Stripe Crewneck Sweater? I am particularly drawn to this for my hubs because he doesn't like sweaters that have tight cuffs; the straight cut of this is perfect for him.

Overall, Martin and Osa gets a huge thumbs-up from me! Most likely, just because I am a self-proclaimed clearance shopper, I will wait to shop there when things are on sale - like right now. Now, that being said, I'm no fool either. If I find a great piece that I know I will use over and over, I won't wait - and you should either.

Check out Martin and Osa today and see what kind of great deals you can scrounge up.

Top 5 Saving With Style Posts: Did You Read Them?

by on 02-16-2009 07:40 AM - last edited on 02-16-2009 04:59 PM

Saving with Style has been around for a while now - in fact, before I know it, it's going to be a year old! Ok, ok, it's still a few months away, but like any good mom, I'm starting my planning early!!

At any rate, we're going to have to do something really special for the big event, for sure.  Any ideas?

When I started thinking about a birthday bash for SWS (as we fondly refer to it 'round these parts), I started to comb through past entries and looking at the most popular according to you fabulous readers.  My question is, have you read the Top 5?women final.jpg

banana republic final.jpgBack in June, shortly after we went live, I talked about Men's Fashion.  If you know a man that should be reading that particular post, feel free to forward it to him. I, personally, have sent it to several people, and have printed it out and posted it to the door of my hubs closet. Someday, he might actually get it.

Then a little later that month we discussed Women and Their Shoes. I gave you direct access to the three best places through Upromise Online Shopping to score fabulous women's shoes at fabulous prices - all while gaining fabulous Keen final.jpgcollege savings, of course. But before you do, make sure you know How to Find Your Sole Mate - very punny, I know.

FitFlops.jpgOur look at FitFlops has been popular as well. One of those "miracle products," I was pretty darn skeptical. But the reverse heel seems to do a lot for you. Maybe not make you all fit and stuff, but they do help improve your posture and alleviate lower back pain.

cleaning final.jpgSeptember found us Cleaning Out the Closet and discussing how to prepare for selling your clothes via consignment. Not a tricky process and definitely a way to score a little extra cash - I use mine to support my shoe habit and my Starbucks obsession.

Michelle Obama's Style is a big hit - go figure!! Women love her style, and it turns out, so do men - who would've thunk? But if you think about it, it toally makes sense. The overwhelming majority of guys prefer a woman that presents herself as real, confident, and above all, natural. No face lifts, no implants, no baring it all. She fits the bill perfectly.

And, finally, if you're still wondering who on Earth is behind this blog, check out my introduction. Clearly, I'm more than just an avatar.

Michelle Obama wowed her husband and women everywhere when she made her appearance at the Kennedy Center in a stunning black dress with two-tone flair. While you might not be able to find the exact same dress, you can get a similar look with one of these 5 hot little numbers.

Head to Old Navy online and check out this two-tone halter-style banded jersey dress. The contrasting fabric creates a stunning look, and the cut is flattering on any figure.

Abaete Black Woven Satin Contrast Shift Dress: sleeveless and perfect for an outdoor, more formal warm-weather event, the contrasting trim makes a statement. The gentle A-line cut hits mid-thigh.

Jill Stuart Patent-Leather Trim Dress: another spicy number, patent leather trim brings out the sexy side of you. Mid-thigh length, cap sleeves, and sateen fabric pull together to make one gorgeous dress.

Calvin Klein Colorblock Shift Sweater Dress: a straight cut with 3/4 length sleeves, this is can be perfect for the office and transition smoothly out to dinner.

Getting Mrs. O's style isn't difficult, it just takes a little hunting. See more ways to get her style right here.

Women's Skin Care and Cosmetics :: Take Advantage of 6% in College Savings with Lancome

by on 02-07-2009 08:07 AM - last edited on 02-12-2009 02:20 PM

Lancome Bonus.pngA while back I was talking about how much I love Lancome's new Oscillation Mascara; that little vibrating wand does wonders for my eyelashes.

But now, Lancome is giving away all sorts of goodies! With any $50 purchase you get free standard shipping, plus a bag chock full 'o love. PLUS they're offering 6% in college savings.

Use the code WARMTH at checkout to cash in.

So, what does your goodie bag hold?  Check it.

Nutrix Royal Body Cream :: got tight skin? This is your golden ticket to the land of supreme skin hydration. Smooth it on and let it instantly relieve that dry, itchy feeling. There's really nothing quite so bad as having an itch you can't scratch; this will save your sanity.

Renergie Microlift R.A.R.E. Superior Lifting Cream :: it's like a facelift in a jar; who knew? You'll look so young you might get mistaken for the much admired, "older sister."

Renergie Microlift R.A.R.E. Superior Lift Eye Cream :: Joan Rivers only wishes she knew about this stuff! Not only will you spend far less, you'll look much more natural too.

Color Fever Gloss  :: the color they're giving you is Heatstroke; need I say more? A neutral color, it will add high-shine to your pout and you won't need Cupid's arrow to illicit plenty of smooches if that's what you're looking for.

Le RougeAbsolu :: the name alone makes me dream of Springtime in Paris. Pumped up with Vitamin E, this is mosturizer you can take with you - anywhere. SPF 15 protects your lips from harmful UV rays; non-feathering color keeps your lipstick on.

Color Design Eye Shadow :: a quad of color with Amber Mystique, Garnet Sensation, Exhibition, and Honeymoon, this compact just sounds saucy, doesn't it?

Blush Subtil :: add Blush Subtil to that quad and you're nothing short of stunning. Throw it in your handbag and head out the door.

So there you have your freebies. But you still need to spend $50 to get them. What are you gonna buy?

I'd suggest the Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover for one. There is nothing I hate more than washing my face only to look like a clown got busy doing my makeup. Ick. Listed in Allure's Beauty Hall of Fame, this makeup remover is the best I've ever found - and I've used a lot. Plus it's been around a long time, so you know it's no flash-in-the-pan product. I'd also slip some of that fantastic Oscillation Mascara in my bag.

Haven't used Oscillation Mascara yet? Check out my review from November and find out why it's worth the investment.

Did you spend your $50 on something else? Let the rest of us know in the comments section; I love to see what other  people are shopping for.
