Kid's just love the summer don't they? No school, sleeping in, the ice cream truck......and the beach.
On Wednesday, I'll talk about swimsuits for mom, but with school getting out, I thought it might be nice to chat a little about what's available for children. Most mass retailers such as Target and Old Navy sell children's swimsuits; in fact, as I sit here thinking about it, I can't think of one that doesn't. And purchasing one at a big-box store is a really attractive idea because the price is so nice.
But before you get too carried away with buying $9.00 swimsuits for the littles, I'd like you to consider something: swimwear with UPF. Last week, I briefly touched on clothing with UPF for dad, but swimsuits are made with it too; especially suits for children.
UPF is different than SPF, but in many regards it does the same basic thing: protects your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. And whether you choose to put them in a long sleeve rash guard t-shirt, or a one-piece, UPF protection is important. The best part is, it's becoming more and more affordable.
Of course, I understand that UPF swimsuits are still not the industry norm, and they can be hard to come by. That said, I'm not going to leave you without any non-UPF swimsuit options. I recently fell in love with these board shorts for boys, over at Boden, when I bought them for my nephew. And for my girl, who's entering that precarious place of "tween-ager," I grabbed this 50's bikini.
And babies.....deliciously lovely babies on the beach. I highly recommend UPF suits for the tiniest of kid's; especially because their skin is so sensitive. But do me a favor, will you? It they're still in diapers, take this opportunity to put them in the Swim Critter diaper cover by Land's End. Available in both boy's and girl's styles, there will be nothing cuter than lots of little sea creature covered bottoms crawling around the beach. Don't forget a long-sleeve shirt and hat to go with it though as you don't want them to burn.
So go on! Enjoy the warm weather and spend lots of time at the beach. Between your fabulous new swimsuit and the kid's new gear, you should be all set for the dog days of summer.
