How does it work? Jeff, please holler back to confirm!

[ Edited ]

How does it really work, I am becoming a UPromise junky and in order for me to "maximize" my savings potential, I need to know the exact details.  Please do not mention the extra 1% potential with the UPromise CC, I am just trying to figure out how UProm calculates.

1) Registered merchant membership cards - Are my UProm points credited when I make a purchase and swipe my membership card at the register, regardless of which CC I use to pay?  Or does payment have to come from a registered CC?

2) Shopping online - Are my UProm points credited when I make a purchase through the Upromise links, regardless of which CC I use to pay?  Or does payment have to come from a registered CC?

3) If the first two answers do not require a registered CC, is the only point in registering your CC's only benefit you when dining out?

4) Assuming #3 is accurate, then to summarize, besides dining, UPromise calculates points on transactions, technically, at the point of sale and does not have to link back to the payment method to credit points?  This is important as my family has some department store issued cards that do not have the "Big Four" logos.

Please read and answer carefully, I want to make sure I don't lose anymore points in "doing it all wrong" because I have already lost out on two years.  Thank you in advance.

Hi luntaos, I'm glad you asked.  I've provided answers below and blue.  Take a look and let me know if you have other questions.

When you purchase eligible products at participating supermarket and drugstores, then yes, you do need to swipe your registered loyalty card.  You do not need to use a registered credit card.

2) Shopping online - Are my UProm points credited when I make a purchase through the Upromise links, regardless of which CC I use to pay?  Or does payment have to come from a registered CC?

Yes, regardless of the credit card you use, as long as you start at Upromise.com, you’ll earn college savings.

3) If the first two answers do not require a registered CC, is the only point in registering your CC's only benefit you when dining out?

Dining out, grocery and drug store purchases, and filling up at Exxon and Mobil gas stations require using a registered card in order to earn college savings. Registered cards can also be used in some retail stores, Golfsmith, 1-800-Flowers, magazines.com, Lumber Liquidators as well as others.  Click here for the list of in-store partners.

4) Assuming #3 is accurate, then to summarize, besides dining, UPromise calculates points on transactions, technically, at the point of sale and does not have to link back to the payment method to credit points?  This is important as my family has some department store issued cards that do not have the "Big Four" logos.

In order to receive the contribution it needs to be a  Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.

As a fellow Upromise junky, it's my pleasure.
