Upromise changing from Citibank to Bank of America

I love upromise but I was sadded to learn that Upromise will switch from Citibank to Bank of America ...and there is no discussion. That is something and an attitude that the bank of America takes. I have had a credit card with Citibank,( 40 yrs.) ,MBNA, chase and BOA. By far the best service is offered by Citi. i have never had a customer problem that wasn't solved to my satisfaction and done immediately. MBNA had babaymint which was similar to upromise..Bank of America took over MBNA and within 6 months they changed the credit card to an everything rewards card thinking this was much better. They lost a lot of people including me.

So I am extremely saddened by the lost of citi and upromise. At this point I am not sure if I will continue.

Re: Upromise changing from Citibank to Bank of America

I do not like Bank of America. I have heard a lot of bad things about this bank. I will just wait and see when the card comes and hopefully I won't have any problems when I use it. I will definintely read the fine print.

I really like the Upromise program and have been a Citi member for 20 years. I wish Upromise would have told us WHY they are switching to BOA. I would prefer to keep the program the way it is.

I also sent a note to Citi cards but I haven't read the response yet. I do know they have another card which offers !% back on all charges and a center to purchase things on line. You will receive a $50 check every time  your totals add up. However i like the idea of the rewards going directly into the college fund. So we will wait to see, . I am more concerned about the customer service. Whenever I have a problem with a merchant and it happens every so ofter, Citi will disallow the item until they investigate, which they do. They don't just leave it up to you so you do yur part but you are not a the mercy of the merchant. Four months ago Direct tv charged me $529 for equipment that was returned and I couldn't get any satisfaction from them, citi disalled the item temporily, investigated and took it off permanently. A few years ago some one charged my account at three different places, i called immediately the merchants and one kept giving me the run around, contacted Citi and all charges were dropped. Thats excellent customer service. I have never been disappointed. You need that kind of trust in a banker. I don't know if i can trust BOA or if I want to take a chance. The more I talk the more it seems the handwritting is on the wall.

Citi has always has great customer service. I don't trust Bank of American and am disappointed that I have to switch to keep saving with the Upromise program. I wish there was another alternative.

agreed, I have had both and watched BOFA nickel and dime its customers while Citi was a consumer minded model.  I can see any savings made by using the BOFA card getting wiped out of my kids account and into the banks.  Oh well, strange they didn't think to include the community in that decision.  Just a letter in the mail.

My understanding is that the letter tells the people who are directly affected.  Why tell a bunch of people who don't have a product that the product they don't have is changing to something they can't have yet.

I am not happy with the change to Bank of America.  I don't trust this bank and worry what the APR is going to be.  I refer to the letter and I noticed that credit card guidelines were not enclosed.  I don't think it is fair to just change from a bank that you were comfortable with.

Re: Upromise changing from Citibank to Bank of America

I am taking a wait and see attitude with regards to Bank of America. I obtained the Citic rewards redit card which allows you to get 1% back on all charges. In addition they have a shoping site citi bonus center which operates like Upromise. Most of the merchants I use are on both site. However I found one merchant who offered a higher % on upromise. This will make things a little difficult but still controbable. When you accumulae $50 , citi will send you a check so you have to be diligent and remember it is for the young ones. My other problem is that prior to the change I placed 3 grands on the upromise site so it will take a longer period of time to accumulate the $25 each, but as soon as I get there I will change to one child. I will continue to use the upromise shop on line.

hopefully I will get infor from this community on how bank of America is doing. But customer service is prime before any consideration, and until BOA changes its habits or improve its service they don't have my dollars.

It's not fair that you're assuming UPromise wanted to make this switch.  In case you haven't watched the news lately, the economy is not doing too well at the moment.  Banks are doing pretty bad.  Citibank is one of the banks in the worst position lately.  I wouldn't be surprised if Citibank is the one that decided to not renew (or break) their contract - we really don't know the details, but I don't really know why UPromise would want to go out of the way to switch.

Re: Upromise changing from Citibank to Bank of America

Yes there is a lot we don't know but there is a lot we do know. We know that Upromise was emphatic about its decision as it stated so indicating it was not for discussion. We know that even if Citiban is in a crisis, its credit card division has done very well and is not part of the crisis. We know that Citibank has excellent customer service, and based on members contact with BOA we can not say the same.. If Citibaks service erodes as a result of the economy then we can take a look at it. I love Upromise but right now I trust Citibank. I don't trust BOA for reasons that have been outlined by myself and others.
