Do Yourself Some Favors

The holidays are winding to a close, and if you're like me, you're already mentally listing all of your goals for the 2009 You... Be More Organized!  Lose Weight!  Maintain your Sanity!  etc. etc.  But before the 2008 You makes his or her exit, there are a few things he or she can do to give the 2009 You a head start when the holidays roll around again next year.

If you have the space to store it, now's the time to stock up on crazily discounted seasonal items like wrapping paper, gift bags, gift tags, and holiday cards.  Check out places like The Container Store and Oriental Trading, place an order and then stash it away with the rest of your holiday decorations.  Next year when 2009 You unearths the seasonal box, he or she will be grateful to already have one to-do already done.

We all know how hard it can be to come up with gift ideas for folks, especially when you feel under the gun.  Make a list now of all the people who you know you'll be gifting next holiday season, and keep it somewhere handy, like your address book.  When somebody mentions something in May that gives you that awesome gift idea, just jot it down on the list.  Then, come next year, you'll hopefully have some of the thinking already done for you.

Remember that great photo book gift idea you had this year... 2 days before Christmas?  While photo gifts can be super, it can take a lot of time to sort through hundreds of photos and get yourself organized.  This year, start a "Photo Gifts" folder in January, and after each new batch of photos are uploaded, take a few seconds to save the good ones to the folder.  Then, come next December, you'll already have the hard part done.

See, just a few simple things done by 2008 You can make 2009 You a happy person at the end of next year... and maybe also make you feel a little better about not doing so well on those Losing Weight or Getting Organized goals.
