Can We the Community Influence Companies to Participate?

by jgweber22 on 04-21-2009 09:54 PM

I have asked Jeff from the Community about this and he is passing the idea around the Upromise people and just wanted to know what everyone else thinks.

I have a thought what if Upromise came up with some type of form or letter that we the community could mail, e-mail or forward over to restaurants, stores, places we love to shop and spend money to make them think again about partnering with Upromise.

If the whole community got together and sent Darden rest. or AMC movies an e-mail or letter requesting to be a part of the program they just might re-think their decision. Right?

I think with petitions or requests we are much stronger if not more persuasive in numbers!!!!!!!

Please give me feed back if this is something you as a Community Member would help with or take part in?

Thank you so much for your time and Spread the Upromise word!

Certainly, we need more retail stores, restaurants, gas stations.  If Upromise can't get it done I'm sure the community can.  Petitions for retail stores would be great displaying to these companies how valuable our bunsiness is in these difficult economic times.

Absolutely I know for myself if I can help in my area or others spread the word and get more people signed up and excited. I know Upromise has a link we can forward, I think maybe if they gave us a document that we could copy and paste with us the consumers able to add our own note. If one person wanted the whole community to send requests to a certain chain or company then forward we all would do. I just wonder if power in numbers might be the way to request to get more pro-active for the pro-active saving families. I am sure the more buzz about this the better the chances of more people getting on board.

jgweber22, this is certainly getting some attention around here at Upromise thanks to you.  It's being considered by the team as a possibility for the second half of this year.

Keep the ideas coming...we're all ears!

I love this idea. I just sent a letter to Johnson  & Johnson because I think that with all of the baby products they sell, they should be participating in a program for kids. I would like if others would bombard them will letters suggesting they participate. Here is my letter if you need a reference:

Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies

199 Grandview Rd.

Skillman, NJ 08558

To Whom It May Concern:

I frequently use many Johnson & Johnson products and I have a suggestion for your company.  I would like to see the Johnson & Johnson Company participate in the Upromise College Savings Program.  This program allows consumers to earn money for their child’s education buy purchasing items in stores and online.  The way that this program works is by using customer loyalty cards (example: CVS or Kroger card) to track the purchases of participating items.  After the purchase has been made, a certain percentage (usually 1% to 5%) of the purchase is put into an account for the child.  Money can also be earned by using their eCoupons.  These are not traditional coupons, but are predetermined amounts that will be credited to a person’s Upromise account after they purchase a participating item.

I think that this program would be an asset to the Johnson & Johnson Company because you can promote your products.  If I am going to purchase an item, I will usually choose the brand that will allow me to earn money through Upromise (I buy Huggies instead of Pampers because they participate through the eCoupons).  I have also purchased items just because they were on sale at the store and giving back money on Upromise.  Through this program a person can also have others earn savings for them and I always let my family and friends know which products are earning savings.

I think that a lot of parents would love to see Johnson & Johnson products (at least the Johnson’s Baby and Aveeno Baby products) become participating items.  As Upromise is a college savings program for children, I just believe that companies which sell products specifically for children should be willing to participate.
