Add More Brick & Mortar Stores

by CINALU on 04-08-2009 11:44 AM
There are a lot of stores that allow us to make purchases online but not in the store. I know we can buy giftcards but unless you planned ahead this doesn't help when you have to wait for them in the mail. Is there some way that a deal can be worked out where we are able to use our store credit cards or any credit card at the participating stores?

CINALU, thanks for posting this idea.  Upromise is constantly looking for additional ways for our members to save for college, including in-store Brick & Mortar locations and we have some exciting new companies we hope to add over the next few months.  Once these partnerships are set I’ll be sure to announce them in the Community.

To give you some additional background, these are complicated opportunities that require agreements from the merchants. You as a consumer can help by telling the companies you shop with that you want them to participate in Upromise and that if you do you will be a loyal shopper.

Thanks again, CINALU.  Please keep the ideas coming.

I would also love to see more B&M stores. Having to pay for shipping kills many of the deals - besides, wouldn't stores like it if you came in because you're more likely to have something else catch your eye on your way to buy what you really wanted and you'll end up buying even more... happens to me all the time. :smileytongue:

Would you consider getting the Kroger Family stores to become an online merchant as well? You can purchase giftcards through thier website and I would love to be able to do this and get credit for the giftcard.

In this poor economy the retailing numbers have been very low.  I would think more and more companies would offer both online deals and in store deals.

With the first time homebuyers credit Home Depot should be a B&M store especially when people will be making more home repairs.  Shopping online can be easy but also very difficult.  More retail stores = more shoppers spending money = better economy.

CINALU, interesting idea.  I'll pass that on to our grocery team and will report back on what I learn.

Diego, here's where you can find gift cards from online stores that are eligible for college savings:

Since Walgreens is already an online partner, perhaps they may be interested in becoming a brick and mortar partner. You could offer them a card similar to what Publix has. It doesn't offer any discount but it would be a way to track purchases.

All, good news.  We've added some new brick and mortar partners over the past several weeks, including Sunglass Hut, Jos. A Bank, Golf Smith, and Plow & Hearth to name a few (click on each for coupon codes and deals).

Click here for a complete list of all in-store merchants where you can earn college savings along with details on how to save.  Just a reminder: be sure to pay with a registered credit or debit card when shopping at those stores.
