Re: Fastest Way to $25, $50, $100...

I don't know if this will help you since I have very good credit, but here goes.

I had a world points card since 2001 with a relatively high credit limit (high compared to my salary and my installment loans - student, mortgage, car) before I applied for the UPromise card.  They told me that I could not be approved for a higher credit limit than I already had, so what they did was split the limit up between the two cards (I had a choice how I wanted to split - I did 50/50).  Once I finished paying off my world points card, I canceled that one (hated to do it since I had it for so long) and had the remaining credit limit balance shifted over to the UPromise card.  Prior to canceling, I spent my remaining points on whatever didn't look like absolute crap - I think I had just qualified for the lowest cash payment.  The points won't transfer over.

Re: Fastest Way to $25, $50, $100...

Rammstein,

Thanks for your reply. My credit is overall better thanks to my rebuilding efforts and mix.

Splitting my limit is not an option to me, but I am thinking maybe I might be able to transfer my limit to Upromise when I'm ready. Thanks for letting me know about the points though. The only thing that will be scary is that I might lose the history I have with my WorldPoints because I would have to close it. If BOA would be able to transfer my history with WorldPoints to Upromise, I may be more inclined to make the switch, but I'd have to make sure that Upromise is a better deal, which looks like it is, plus I'd have time to spend my points. If it makes it worthwhile, I'll do it. Looking at the Upromise site, had I done this earlier, I might have had a good $1000 or more (I only use Exxon for gas, and there are three of them in my town alone....including a real expensive one for those people going back accross the bridge). Is Upromise retroactive? (LOL, rhetorical...I wish it were though).

How has the card worked out for you, personally? My statement is coming up in a couple of days and right now I'm at 0 balance, so I'll have leverage when (if) I make the switch.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Fastest Way to $25, $50, $100...

My cc has accounted for half of my earnings, so it's definitely been worth it for me.

I wasn't able to "transfer" my credit history over to the new card, I had to start from scratch.  I'd give the "transfer" a shot though.  But, you've only had the card for 1 year, so you're not really losing much.

Re: Fastest Way to $25, $50, $100...

hi all

i just joined last month and i've registered all my cards but i haven't seen any earnings yet in my account..any idea when i should start seeing some accruement of savings??  i'm already in college and i'm saving for myself so i need all the help i can get...  also, do all the contributing businesses to Upromise have qualifying minimum purchase amounts?  like the gas stations have a certain amount of gallons that one must purchase per month in order to receive any savings for a Upromise account..are all the contributing companies like that?  and would it benefit me more if I have a Upromise credit card instead of keeping my state credit union credit card?

any responses in the next couple minutes would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Re: Fastest Way to $25, $50, $100...

Hey there, welcome to Upromise.  Hope the new college year is going well for you.

I'd love to hear other members chime in, but I thought I'd give some suggestions as well.  First of all, here's a good resource regarding how the program works.  And to answer your question about minimum purchases, that only applies to gas.

Next, if you're shopping online, just be sure to start at Upromise.com and then proceed on to any of the participating merchants' sites.  For the most part, you don't need to use a credit card registered to your Upromise account.  Again, the key is to start at Upromise.  Or, download TurboSaver, our online savings reminder.

If you're eating at a Upromise Dining participating restaurant, you do need to use a credit card registered to your Upromise account.  You'll find more information about that on the resource page I mentioned above.

As for the Upromise credit card, one of the benefits to that is you earn 1% on every purchase you make, not to mention extra college savings at Exxon and Mobil stations, restaurants and eligible grocery and drugstore purchases.  Here's information on our gas and grocery card and click here for info on our dining and grocery card.

Keep the questions coming.  And to others, please jump in with any other suggestions you have.

Thanks.

Re: Fastest Way to $25, $50, $100...

thanks for the information, jeff.

so my next question is why haven't I seen any savings start to accrue?  i just ate at a participating restaurant and paid with a registered card but have seen no change in my account?? am I supposed to tell the cashier that it's for a Upromise account..does it take weeks for the savings to accrue or does it only go into the account once a month, once every  3 months, 4 months??

I know i may sound a bit frantic but I just want to make sure that it (the account) has been set up correctly..all  my cards have been registered, I'm registered..what else do I need to do?

Make sure you shop by first logging in to UPromise and then use their links to merchants.

Hello, I've been checking and it seems that it could take up to 60 days for transactions to post to your account...
