College Visits

My daughter was and is very undecided about what she wants to do and therefore, had no idea where she wanted to go to school. She was really dragging her feet. The one thing she knew for sure was that they had to have an Equestrian Team. I started with that and added that they have the things she has talked about wanting to do over the last year or so. I then randomly picked a school that fit those criteria and best of all had a "Visit Day" coming up in the time frame I wanted. She was still saying that she didn't even know if she wanted to go to that school. I told her we were just going to make some visits to see what to expect. It was the smartest thing we could have done. The "Visit Day" at TCU was so informational and really helped her to know that it's ok not to know what you want to do. We were also able to narrow down a few more things she did or didn't want in a school, like size of school, and freshman support programs.
She started on her account on commonapp.org in the airport on the way home and now she is actually interested in what visits we make.

Bottom line - Look for a college that has a specific planned visit day and go on that day, even if you haven't put a list together. It will help you make that list. Especially if this is your first child in college.

For those who are heading out on campus tours with your kids, here's an article you might want to read.  Click here to check it out and then circle back and let me know if this type of information is useful.  And let the Community know what schools you're looking at.  You never know, there might be an alum among us who can tell you more about the college.

Looks like it's Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.  Are you on the college hunt right now?
