My Family saves in many ways.
When we bought our house in 2001, we changed every possible bulb in the house to a flourescent bulb. Costco offered the bulbs via PG&E instant rebate which resulted in instant savings both at the check out and on the next months bill. Our average PG&E this year was $65-$75 on a 2070 sq ft home.
We took another step forward last year and quit using our air conditioner in the summer with the heat outdoors getting upwards to 104 degree's. We bought a swamp cooler and the house stayed a cool 72-74 degrees in the heat of the day. Now this savings was COOL.
Just in October of 2007 I signed on to WWW.INGDirect.com to start a bi-weekly savings at the rate of $50-$100 through payroll auto deposit. And of course any extra that was not spent in the month we put there also. We have been able to put away over $2000 in just a year. And the cool thing of this is just the savings acct. pays 2.75% interest and if you want to get more for your money on a longer term, just invest in CD's which there is no mininum to start. I would say i went green here, but ive gone ORANGE.
The biggest savings we have managed to love is, RECYCLING. Now this is very green.... Not only we get between $65-$100 per pickup truck load, but we file it on our taxes and UNCLE SAM even gives us a little green on top of that.
Well there is more. but i dont want to waste ink and paper when they print this off, so i will end it here.
Happy Savings to all you and keep up the great work.
