For those families that do not have insurance, check with your physicians office about paying using the fee schedule set up by insurance companies. Insurance companies have an "allowable amount" for each procedure performed.
Example:
Patient A has insurance the insurance pays $23.50 for an office visit and $52.50 for treatment.
Patient B does not have insurance the standard rate for an office visit is $65.00 and $75.00 for treatment. Patient B can check with the Dr. office and see if they will negotiate the rate down to the "allowable amount" that is paid by an insurance company.
For additional savings, research the cost of your prescription prior to filling it. Fry's and Walmart have $4 prescription program for most generics. Safeway is offering a $30 gift card to fill a new prescription. Costco has current prescription costs online. Check the drug manufacture's web sites for rebates and coupons. While you are at the Dr. office ask for samples and check the office waiting room for coupons and samples.
